What is 3D Printing?
3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created.

Design is initial step to 3D Printing Process.  It's nothing but a AutoCAD Design File. The Auto Cad Designed file needs to converted to STL format. STL (STereoLithography) is a file format native to the stereolithography CAD software created by 3D Systems. STL has several after-the-fact backronyms such as "Standard Triangle Language" and "Standard Tessellation Language".
Upload the STL file to the 3D Printer and Select the material , There are various number of variables available like PLA,ABS,TPU etc.
Printer consists of a Nozzle & a Print Bed. Both Nozzle & Print Bed are heated to a specific temperature to melt the material fed into Printer.
Nozzle drops the material drop by drop in layers and build the object required.
The Process resembles like a Ink Jet Printer that's where it's referred as 3D Printing.
